Excellent beginning. Tego Calderon is such a natural. Very fluid in his delivery. Very talented indeed. And Omar too. He’s this Boys and Girls Club big brother ~ “Hey man, everything’s going to be alright. Thing’s going to be different.”

Too bad it’s only 17 minutes long. Squeezing in all those beautiful locations, locals, the culture, in various jump shots, so does the the editing, thus cutting short on the story as well. I see escaping prison in the DR must be pretty easy. All you need is a wire cutter. I also see girls clamouring and fawning over rich, powerful men are also common there and not just in the States.

Why does Dom always get caught red-handed by Letty with the “skanks”…haha. I think in real life, Vin is showing us or warning us that’s what happens to rich powerful men. They have to be very careful around loose change flocking to them like moth to the light does not mean they will sleep with them. These girls will flock, flutter, and flirt hoping to score but they get nothing more. Ladies, if that describes what happens your man, as Letty does here, it’s nothing personal. Letty can see past that. She gets it. That’s why she never leaves Dom. In a way, I think Vin is telling us something. Not sure what but it’s probably that…as I see it, it’s pretty common to assume there’s more to the story but nope. It ends there.

It’s interesting too to see Dom very relaxed and mellow, quite the opposite of him in LA. It’s the island. It’s siesta everyday and no one is rushing. Also seeing Dom the godfather of many among his people, the poor. The poor folks in the island, they rely on a “godfather” to help them. Actually, it’s common sight among most poor countries esp. in Latin Americas.

I think the best part of the film besides Tego is Letty. Very well done by Michelle…especially the scene in Dom’s lap in the car while he’s driving, a close up shot of her gently nuzzling against Dom’s neck, the look on her face, vulnerable..she knows her time with him is short on the island. She’s Bonnie, he’s Clyde on the run with the law. She’s Raffaella, he’s Gennarino on the run, with love. Their love is fleeting. Like this film, it’s too short….!

My favorite scene is the last…when they’re going away…to make love one last time…This scene reminds me a little of Italian film “Swept Away” when Raffaella only have a few fleeting moments with Gennarino before going back to the mainland. Something about an island when you’re away and in love when you know when you go back home, something’s going to tragically end.

Score: 8/10.
